The Mirror & WHEN

Why Do We Say…

What's In The Mirror Is Stronger Than 1000 WHY's

Here's the story…

We all have 1000 reasons WHY to continue doing things not good for our health.

Things such as these!

So why keep doing them?

ANSWER:
Because among other reasons, they may already be a habit, may seem like second nature, or at times, may just simply feel so darn good!

But the reality is that there is only one YOU!

And even though we may have 1000 reasons WHY to engage in such harmful behavior, the truth is that there is nothing stronger, more valuable, more beautiful, or worth more than the person we see in the mirror everyday.

So if you think about it, all the reasons WHY to engage in such behavior, are still not enough to overpower the image in the mirror and the well-being, importance, & significance of YOU!

That's why we say…

What's In The Mirror Is Stronger Than 1000 WHY's

"Our Bank Signed Up Last Year.

What's Next?"

We hope you enjoyed your first year with WHEN!

Currently, GBA Insurance Trust and Wellview are getting our second phase of banks enrolled into the program. Once this is complete, towards the middle of April, it will be time to gear up to start scheduling your 2nd year screenings! This will be a similar process to what we went through in your first year, however some things have changed:

Rebekah Huston will be calling each of you to have a 2nd year face-to-face meeting. In this meeting she will have you answer a series of questions. These questions will help us best select a screening schedule for this year.  Some examples of these questions are:

  • What kind of timeline is best for the bank?
  • What are some changes you'd like to see from year 1 to year 2?
  • When/where are good places and locations for 2nd year screenings
  • Do you want to select new WHEN Champions?
  • When can the bank absolutely NOT have a screening?
  • Etc.

Once Rebekah has this meeting, we will set your bank's screening schedule.

GBAIT will send new promotional materials and other supplies to help pump your group up for year 2!

The rest of the program will run very much like it did your first year. Each participant will choose to participate again this year and then complete the three step process.

  • Online Health Risk Assessment
  • In-person screening—consists of a finger prick, blood pressure measurements, and height and weight measurements.
  • In-person Coaching sessions.

"Our Bank Signed Up this Year.

What's Next?"

Once you are signed up you will complete the following steps:

HR will receive an email asking him/her to upload the required bank and employee information to Wellview Health. To eliminate confusion, please download and use the recommended templates for the eligibility and location files. (If HR did not receive the email please visit www.gbawhen.com/126 and complete the steps.)

Once the eligibility file has been received, Rebekah Huston with Wellview will contact HR and set up a date to have an in-person meeting. At this meeting she will discuss some of the following items:

  • Program timeline
  • Confirming that Wellview Health is whitelisted by your IT department
  • Best screening locations based on the location file
  • WHEN Champion selection
  • Blackout dates for events
  • General information about the bank's culture, population, etc.

After Rebekah's visit, Wellview will begin putting together a screening schedule.

Once the screening schedule has been determined, GBA Insurance Trust will send your bank a "WHEN Toolkit". This Toolkit has everything you need to inform your employees and get them prepared for the screenings. We will send you a box for every screening location.

After you receive your Toolkits and have them posted at the bank, you will have anywhere from 60-90 days left until your screening event. Wellview Health will be contacting both HR and the WHEN Champion with information regarding the program in preparation for the screening event, as well as sending you additional promotional materials.

Approximately 30 days before your screening event occurs, Wellview Health will begin sending your employees emails on how to register and sign-up for a screening. These emails will also prompt your employees to take a "Health Assessment". This is the first part of the three-step screening process:

  1. Health Assessment
  2. Health Screening
  3. Healthy Living Consult.

The big day will finally arrive and everyone will be excited about the event.

At the onsite screening, your employees will come to the screening location at their scheduled appointment time. Here the clinician will prick the participant's finger for blood work as well as take their height, weight and blood pressure. The results are immediate and will be written in a Healthy Living Profile for the participant to take with them.

After the screening is complete, the participant will immediately go into a Healthy Living Consult with one of Wellview's Healthy Living Coaches.

In this 15 minute consult, the coach provides an overview of the services available through Wellview Health and answers any questions a participant may have! Many participants realize they need to get serious about their health and are excited to engage in the covered coaching support. If a participant has a major concern, they may be eligible for a Healthy Living program such as smoking cessation and weight loss.

WHEN FAQs

Have questions about the WHEN program? You've come to the right place. We hope that these frequently asked questions will answer anything you would like to know.

What is WHEN?

The wellness and well-being program being paid for by your GBA Insurance Trust and carried out by Wellview Health.

How will my bank benefit from WHEN?

Our goal is for you to see less sick employees and more employees that are feeling their best! Your employees have the opportunity to engage in virtual health coaching and access to clinical support around weight loss, tobacco cessation, stress management and more. Taking advantage of these resources will help your employees feel happier and healthier, creating a better work environment and increasing motivation and productivity.

Who is carrying out the WHEN program?

Wellview Health. They are the healthcare professionals hired by your GBA Insurance Trust. Learn more about Wellview Health at www.wellviewhealth.com

What can I do to ensure WHEN has a high level of participation?

We believe in a "top-down" approach. We see the highest level of participation when your bank's management is working to inspire a culture of health. So, first and foremost, make sure before signing up for the program that this is something your company's management is willing to support and participate in! Updating the snack machines to healthier options, encouraging employees to break up the workday with a walk or even sharing stories about your personal well-being journey are all ways you can help shape a positive change!

We also see success when there is an incentive to participate. This is why GBA Insurance Trust encourages your employees to participate by providing a $50 incentive. We often see that the banks with high participation rates are the banks that provide their employees with an additional incentive to participate. Whether it be recognition at a staff meeting or a healthy lunch day for everyone participating, it doesn't have to be a high-cost incentive. A little goes a long way in this respect.

Who can I talk to about improving WHEN?

You will have a team backing and supporting you at GBA Insurance Trust and at Wellview Health. Your main point of contact will be Danielle Driggers at the Insurance Trust. Her contact information is 404.420.2002(w) or 404.433.1125(m). She can also be reached at ddriggers@gabankers.com

Why are we saying "What's in Mirror is Stronger Than 1000 Why's"?

Because we believe that your image, (in other words YOU) will be stronger than the thousands of reasons why we all engage in behavior we know is harmful to us.

Remember, you're not alone! Those harmful behaviors such as eating more, smoking or not exercising are perfectly understandable because they can feel so darn good at times!

What am I expected to do as a WHEN champion?

As a WHEN Champion, you help us accomplish two main goals:

  1. SUPPORT—The WHEN Champion helps support HR by assisting with scheduling Screening Events, receiving incoming packages related to the screenings, coordinating with Wellview about event logistics, and answering other employee's questions or pointing them in the right direction for help!
  2. MOTIVATE—The WHEN Champion does not need to be extremely fit or even in great health to be a Champion! He/She needs to be an encouraging person that is well-liked and well respected. This person will be in charge of motivating their co-workers to participate! Much of the bank's success in this program is due to the WHEN Champion and their level of involvement and motivation!

I'm a WHEN champion, who can I call in case I need immediate help and my HR is not available?

If you need immediate help please contact one of the following people:

GBA Insurance Trust:
Danielle Driggers at 404.420.2002(w) or 404.433.1125(m).
She can also be reached at ddriggers@gabankers.com

Wellview Health:
Rebekah Huston at 678.522.1132.
She can also be reached at rhuston@wellviewhealth.com

How much will WHEN cost my bank?

The program is completely FREE for anyone covered under GBA Insurance Trust's Medical Plan.

Your bank can make the decision whether or not to allow employees NOT covered under GBAIT's plan to participate. The cost for non-covered employees is $120 per person per year.

Once my bank is signed up, what is the next move?

If a participant has a major concern, they may be eligible for a Healthy Living program such as smoking cessation and weight loss.

What are the expected results to my bank's bottom line and how do I ensure these results?

When productivity and motivation increase, your bank's bottom line will do the same. Encouragement of participation is the best way to ensure this.

What is it like working with one of Wellview's Healthy Living Coaches?

Wellview's Healthy Living Coaches are experts in inspiring positive changes – and with a 97% satisfaction rating, they're constantly proving their ability to connect with participants in a meaningful way. Wellview prides itself on a confidential and personalized approach. Every participant is met exactly where they are on their health journey, and then a roadmap is created to offer small steps that lead to lasting changes. The Wellview Healthy Living Coaches have been helping our members tackle weight loss, manage stress, set (and achieve!) fitness goals, end a lifetime of smoking, connect with clinical experts and even help with time-management.

The Wellview Healthy Living Coaches, along with all of GBA Insurance Trust, truly believe that in order to make a positive change a participant must be ready. There is never unwanted pressure or comparisons, just trusted support to help each participant lead their healthiest life!

I have a new employee. How do I sign them up?

If you have a new employee, please send an email to Rebekah Huston at rhuston@wellviewhealth.com with the following information for the new employee:

  • First and Last Name
  • Email Address
  • Date of Birth
  • Last 4 of Social Security Number
  • GBAIT Health Plan Status (Y/N)
  • Bank Branch Location

How do I schedule my bank's health assessment and health screening?

Rebekah Huston will be able to help you with this at her initial meeting once your bank has signed up for the program. You will provide us with some details and the rest is up to us! If you have any questions, please send an email to Rebekah Huston at rhuston@wellviewhealth.

How long will the WHEN program last?

This is a three year program. Once you opt in, you will be in the program for at least the next three years. Every year you will have a screening event in the bank.

WHEN's Stories

What better way to gain some inspiration from the WHEN program than by hearing some real life success stories from fellow WHEN enthusiasts!

We encourage you to take a look at just a few stories from other members of the WHEN program and see why many are calling it one of life's greatest opportunities!

Sarah Bynum:

Where do you work and in what capacity?

I am a Human Resources Specialist and even though I am involved with many facets of HR, my main concentration is in employee training and policies and procedures review for the Bank.

Why did you become involved with WHEN?

I was chosen as the WHEN Champion for our floor. At first, when they asked me to do it, I was thinking they had made a mistake! Surely, they meant it for someone a lot healthier and fit than I was!

However, I knew that being chosen as the WHEN Champion, I was responsible for invoking energy & enthusiasm in my colleagues for the program. That was something I figured I could easily do. I knew even though with my own personal doubts about my health, I couldn't let down my coworkers and their success.

What kind of positive effects have you experienced, or are hoping to experience because of WHEN?

A few years ago, I injured my knee during a hiking trip at Tallulah Gorge State Park, and progressively over time, it had gotten worse.

The constant knee pain contributed to me being less active and in turn helped to put on a lot of weight. This past year, I had undergone several injections and even knee surgery and still the pain did not go away.

I have three small children who are into baseball, band, golf and dance and it was getting harder and harder for me to keep up with them. I realized during the WHEN program that I had to take control of my own life.

Since the shots and surgery was not working, I decided I needed to take the excess weight off my knees. So, I joined a gym and hired a trainer!

As I was mentally challenging and motivating my coworkers, I was also challenging and motivated myself. My goal? I just wanted to be around for my children's present and future! I have since lost 10 lbs but still have a ways to go!

However, I'll take any accomplishment, big or small that I can get! It's been a slow process since am working through my pain. I still have my good and bad days but I do see the light at the end of the tunnel and it's very bright indeed!

Do you have any tips to offer fellow members of WHEN?

Honestly, I don't think wanting to fit into that little black dress is a good enough goal. You know the game, little black dress? A piece of cheesecake? Little black dress? Cheese...cake?! Yes, cheesecake, cheesecake!!

Joking aside, you have got to want it from within! There has to be a hard un-selfish goal at the end. It cannot be just all about you. I think when the goal involves someone or something you love, you push a little harder.

For me, knowing that I don't want to leave my children without a mother was enough for me. Running a 5K can be the "IT" for someone else. Sometimes, when we set goals for just us, we end up failing. It's easy to let ourselves down. It's just us. We're not hurting anyone else. But when someone else depends on you, it's a bit harder to face failure. This may not be the case for everyone, I'm just speaking from personal experience.

The WHEN program is an amazing tool! You have so many resources at your fingertips; counselors, motivators, wellness screenings, etc. I knew before doing the WHEN program that I wanted to get better.
WHEN was just the jumpstart I needed to get on that path!

Joe Brannen:

A few weeks ago, I went rock climbing with my grandson and beat him to the top two out of three times. At first, I was surprised, but then I cherished immensely the fun time I had just spent with him.

I signed up for the WHEN program because I want to be able to go rock climbing with my grandson every year.

The program made me reflect that I always want to be able to do all the things I like, such as hiking, kayaking, and activities with my family.

I've already started watching my diet and exploring menus full of healthy options, (like mixing tuna fish with avocado instead of mayo!) which I've felt has been a crucial first step.

Charlie Jordan:

When I heard Wellview, (the clinical professionals conducting the WHEN program) was going to be in the office doing health screenings, I signed up immediately.

My goal has always been to do an IRONMAN race, but with my lifestyle, it seemed impossible. Signing up for the health screening felt like the first step in reaching this longtime goal.

Today, I believe WHEN will be the reason why I'll complete an IRONMAN this year.

Thanks guys!

Angelia Thomas:

Where do you work and in what capacity?

I work at Paragon Benefits, Inc. as a Stop Loss Analyst in the Reinsurance Department.

Why did you become involved with WHEN?

I needed to make some changes in my lifestyle. The WHEN program gave me an opportunity to make the changes with a group of people rather than just doing it alone with little success as I have been doing (attempting to do) for years. Then the competition came along and that made it even better. Something else to motivate the competitive part of me.

What kind of positive effects have you experienced, or are hoping to experience because of WHEN?

Oh my goodness! I have had so many positive results coming from this. Some results I did not expect. I had been walking around with a pain in my right side for several, several months and had no idea what it was. I thought maybe I had pulled a muscle. I finally made a doctor’s appointment and during that time we came up with the bowling competition: drink at least 32 oz. of water a day and work out at least 20 minutes a day. I committed to drinking 60 to 80 oz. of water a day and walking during my 15-minute break. By the time my doctor’s appointment came up, I had NO pain in my side. My blood pressure was PERFECT! To top it all off I had lost eleven pounds! I’m running again with my eight year old and playing soccer with her. I am less stressed; I attribute that to the walking everyday. During my doctor’s visit I found out that this new level of water intake would be what I would have to and should have always been taking in because of a medical issue I was totally unaware of. Had it not been for the WHEN program, I may not have ever known the benefit of this simple change.

Do you have any tips to offer fellow members of WHEN?

You have to do it for yourself. Once you start, don’t plan to stop, keep it up. If you miss a day or two because of your schedule, don’t sweat it, just double up over the next few days. Treat your body like you treat your favorite car. If you don’t ever fuel the car up and you don’t ever drive that car, it will sit and rust and maybe one day not crank up for you. Our bodies are the same way. If we don’t fuel them up with the right substances and get them moving, we tend to be a little rusty and less motivated ourselves. Let’s crank it up! The WHEN project is a great way to get on top of your health!

Missy Powers:

Where do you work and in what capacity?

I work for United Bank as an IRA Specialist.

Why did you become involved with WHEN?

This program was offered as a benefit to employees at no charge. I felt it would be a great opportunity to learn more about a healthy lifestyle. I have to admit, I was reluctant for a bit because I knew it would force me to face things about my current habits that I wasn’t sure I wanted to address; let alone let anyone else know about. However, I knew it was the best thing for me.

What kind of positive effects have you experienced, or are hoping to experience because of WHEN?

I’ve been a typical roller coaster dieter for many years. This program as well as my health coach, Keeley, has helped me realize getting healthy is much more than just losing weight. Shortly after enrolling in this program, I became sick and had to go to the doctor. During that “seasonal cold” visit I discovered I have diabetes. I’ve had a feeling that would be something I’d face at some point because it runs in my family and because of my continued weight problem. I have learned by changing old habits and creating healthier habits I feel better which leads to a healthier lifestyle, and I’m passing this on to my family. I have a long way to go to lose the weight I’d like to see gone. However, I know this is not a means to get to an end. For example; trying to get into a certain outfit or swimsuit by June. This is my new normal. As I’ve been on this journey, I’ve still had low points but the outcome is different. I think differently. Instead of giving up, I get up and start again. I know this is a process and just like anything else, it is a learned process. What I was reluctant to get into has become life changing.

Do you have any tips to offer fellow members of WHEN?

Don’t let your fears outweigh the wonderful benefits this program has to offer. Your hurdle may not be weight, like it is for me. But, I can assure you it will be beneficial if not life changing.

Sandy Morehead:

Where do you work and in what capacity?

I am a BSA Specialist for The Piedmont Bank.

Why did you become involved with WHEN?

Some of my previous job responsibilities involved assisting our HR Officer. When the WHEN program was introduced, it fell into my sphere of duties. Even though I was bit apprehensive initially (I wasn’t the ideal image of having a healthy lifestyle) I thought it would provide incentive for me to change my mindset about healthy living and others might feel the same.

What kind of positive effects have you experienced, or are hoping to experience because of WHEN?

I was surprised and relieved that a program had been developed to help motivate people and would be so accessible! Everything from the posters to the screenings was made incredibly easy not only for me as the WHEN Champion but as an employee utilizing the service. It didn’t take major amounts of time. I was given all the materials, instructions and support I needed to get the message out about the program and execute the screenings.

My biggest surprise came as a screening participant. Expecting the worst results because I was overdue for a physical, my numbers were actually very good. My technician was so very calm walking me through what was going to happen and was so gentle I barely felt the finger prick. She thoroughly explained my results and educated me in areas I had questions about. Moving into the session with the counselor was my next surprise. I thought it was going to be a hard sell about signing up for sessions but really was just an explanation of some of the benefits I could receive from coaching. I came away from the experience feeling empowered and definitely motivated to take control of my health!

Do you have any tips to offer fellow members of WHEN?

Trust the confidential nature of the sign up and screening process. I cannot stress that enough! This is not about getting information to “hold against you” for benefit coverage – it is a BENEFIT OF COVERAGE! Just do it and get the information you need to help you know, at the very least, a base line for your health.

For those who are WHEN Champions, I would urge you not to make people feel guilty about not participating or questioning the process. Simply explain the benefits, reassure them of the confidential nature and tell your story (why you’re doing it)! Three of our four “walk-ins” were firmly against this program but in applying the principles I mentioned, they changed their minds and expressed their appreciation for my approach!
